📊 French imports of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) more than doubled in the first half of 2024, despite the European Union’s efforts to reduce its energy dependence on Russia, and even as demand in France fell by 9%. Imports increased from 2 million m³ in the first half of 2023 to 4.4 million m³ during the same period in 2024. Meanwhile, the other two largest importers of Russian gas, Spain and Belgium, saw their imports grow by 1% and decline by 16%, respectively.

📉 France imported less gas from the United States, Angola, and Egypt during the same period, while its Russian gas imports surged. Oleh Savytskyi, founder of the NGO Razom We Stand, condemned the absurdity of exemptions benefiting TotalEnergies, which he argues are effectively financing Russia’s war of aggression. “This is all about profits at the expense of ethical principles and international solidarity,” he stated.

❌ Together with the NGO Razom We Stand, we call on France and the European Union to impose a total embargo on Russian gas!
