At the Congrès des Maires de France, the city of Plœmeur initiated a partnership with the Ukrainian city of Ichnia, located in the Chernihiv region, which has been severely affected by the war. Following an initial meeting at the Élysée Palace between Ronan Loas, mayor of Plœmeur, and Olena Buturlym, mayor of Ichnia, discussions continued via video conference to define concrete support actions.

Since the beginning of the conflict, the city and its region have suffered extensive destruction: 454 buildings damaged, including essential infrastructure, and many families displaced. Facing the challenges of winter and power outages, Plœmeur is mobilizing to provide emergency supplies, including generators, as part of the Lights for Winter campaign, and to support the city’s reconstruction.

Plœmeur aims to make this solidarity long-lasting by forging a strong bond of friendship with Ichnia, in collaboration with the city of Avranches. This partnership is part of a broader movement of cooperation between French and Ukrainian municipalities, which is essential for rebuilding and supporting communities affected by the war.

Stand With Ukraine welcomes this new initiative and will continue to support cities committed to these Franco-Ukrainian partnerships.
