🗼🇺🇦 The Eiffel Tower illuminated in blue and yellow: A powerful gesture of solidarity with Ukraine
On February 23, the Eiffel Tower lit up in blue and yellow, a strong symbolic act of support for the Ukrainian people. This initiative, led by the City of Paris and its Mayor Anne Hidalgo, marks the first anniversary of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
💙💛 “Ukraine will prevail,” declared Anne Hidalgo, expressing her hope and confidence in the resilience of the Ukrainian people in the face of Russian aggression. This gesture goes beyond symbolism; it reaffirms Paris’s steadfast commitment to standing alongside Kyiv.
Paris and Kyiv are bound by a friendship and cooperation pact signed in April 2022, aimed at strengthening ties between the two cities. This partnership has led to tangible actions such as welcoming Ukrainian refugees in Paris, providing material aid, and offering moral support in Ukraine’s fight for freedom and independence against the Russian aggressor.
Vadym Omelchenko, Ukraine’s Ambassador to France, praised the gesture on Twitter, saying:
“Together with Anne Hidalgo and our friends in Paris, we lit up the Eiffel Tower in the colors of Ukraine. A grand gesture, like everything France does to support the Ukrainian people. These lights of solidarity will be seen all the way to Ukraine, and they will triumph over the darkness.”
