Tuesday, May 9, 2023, the French National Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution with 331 votes, calling on France and the European Union to designate the private military group Wagner as a terrorist organization. The association Stand With Ukraine actively supported the passage of this resolution and welcomes the outcome.
The resolution highlights the numerous acts of violence, intimidation, and disinformation perpetrated by Wagner, particularly in Ukraine, Mali, Niger, Syria, and other African countries, while calling for diplomatic mobilization. It also demands international investigations into Wagner’s atrocities and increased support for victims of terrorism.
The Wagner Group has notably been ordered to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other officials to destabilize the Ukrainian state. It has been implicated in executions, torture, and mutilations in Bucha, where nearly 460 civilians were killed.
