In the afternoon before the ceremony, Emmanuel Macron met President Zelensky and President-elect Donald Trump at the Élysée Palace. Together, they discussed the situation in Ukraine and how to move towards a just and lasting peace.

“We all want this war to end as quickly as possible and in a just manner. We talked about our people, the situation on the ground and a just peace. We agreed to continue working together and to keep in touch. Peace by force is possible,” said President Zelensky on X.

These discussions, essential to progress towards the end of the war, highlighted the need for unwavering support from the United States and the international community. As President Zelensky stressed, a strong Ukraine is the key to achieving a just and lasting peace. A Ukraine supported by its allies will be able to guarantee not only its sovereignty, but also the stability and security of Europe as a whole.
