In August 2023, a group of young Ukrainians had the chance to visit Paris and spend a few days away from the war.After traveling across Europe to reach Paris, 21 Ukrainian children, along with their chaperones, explored the city as part of a partnership between the 15th arrondissement and the Pechersk district in Kyiv. Invited by the arrondissement’s mayor, Philippe Goujon, and with the support of Stand With Ukraine, these children enjoyed a stay filled with activities organized by the arrondissement’s teams. The Forum of Mayors from the Sumy and Lviv regions is an initiative bringing together communities from Sumy, located in eastern Ukraine and bordering Russia, and Lviv, in the country’s west. Held over two days, July 28–29, in Truskavets, the Forum aimed to foster exchanges and cooperation between mayors and local officials from these regions, despite the immense challenges and horrors they have faced due to the brutal war triggered by the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022.During this gathering, several mayors and deputies shared their personal wartime experiences, highlighting their courage and resilience in remaining at their posts despite life-threatening risks.
