Ukraine: Cold as a Weapon of War
As Ukraine endures an exceptional cold wave, with temperatures dropping as low as –20°C, Russia is intensifying its air strikes against civilian energy infrastructure.Electricity, district heating, and distribution networks are being methodically targeted to trigger a humanitarian crisis in the middle of winter.
In Kyiv, millions of residents are experiencing prolonged power outages. Without electricity or heating, apartments become uninhabitable. Energy workers are operating under extreme conditions, while new waves of attacks are being announced.

After a night train from Lviv, Chef Thierry Marx continued his visit to Ukraine in Kyiv.
In Kyiv, cooking and training were at the heart of the exchanges during a meeting organized with Expertise France in Ukraine, Культура їжі | Cult Food, and the French Embassy in Ukraine, held at the offices of UKRSIBBANK BNP Paribas Group. The evening was opened by Gael Veyssiere, French Ambassador to Ukraine.
Alongside Ukrainian chef Ievgen Klopotenko, Thierry Marx cooked with Ukrainian trainees trained in France, including former military personnel and displaced persons, particularly from Mariupol, as well as teachers from the vocational high school for hospitality and catering in Chernihiv.

Chef Thierry Marx traveled to Ukraine a few days before the end-of-year holidays, accompanied by Caroline Leclercq, Deputy Mayor of the City of Le Havre—partner city of Mariupol (Маріупольська міська рада)—as well as teams from Cuisine Mode d’Emploi(s) and Stand With Ukraine.
Lviv was the first stop of this visit.
The day began at the Field of Mars, a military cemetery where many Ukrainian defenders who fell in combat are buried. We paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for Ukraine. Candles were lit during a particularly moving moment of remembrance, highlighting the human cost of the war.
