The crucial role of Ukrainian mayors since the beginning of Russian aggression was highlighted in Nancy during the Urban7.
This week, five Ukrainian mayors and local elected officials took part in a panel titled “Supporting Ukrainian cities: urban reconstruction and resilience strategies.”
Oleksandr Syenkevych, Mayor of Mykolaiv, Vitalii Bielobrov, Deputy Mayor of Kherson, Serhii Morhunov, Mayor of Vinnytsia, Andriy Moskalenko, First Deputy Mayor of Lviv, and Bohdan Kelichavyi, Mayor of Kopychyntsi, each described their daily realities. On the ground, they are working to ensure access to drinking water and electricity, keep schools open despite bombardments, organize the reception of thousands of displaced people, and already plan the reconstruction of their territories.

This week, the City of Nancy hosted Urban 7, the “Cities’ G7,” organized as part of France’s G7 presidency.
A few days before the G7 summit bringing together Heads of State and Government, mayors and elected officials from G7 cities gathered to discuss the role of territories in addressing the major challenges of our time: the ecological transition, housing, local governance, democracy… as well as the reconstruction and resilience of Ukrainian territories.
