The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s Parliament, Votes to Join the International Criminal Court

On Wednesday, August 21, the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, voted in favor of joining the International Criminal Court (ICC), marking a significant step for Kyiv in its pursuit of justice for war crimes committed by Russia on Ukrainian soil.

This historic decision, approved by 281 deputies, enables Ukraine to ratify the Rome Statute, the founding treaty of the ICC.

The move is also seen as a strong signal of Ukraine’s alignment with the European Union and its democratic values.
