Stand With Ukraine was present in Le Havre for the Friendship Day between Le Havre and Mariupol, an event dedicated to solidarity and concrete initiatives for post-war reconstruction. This gathering was marked by the signing of a friendship protocol between the mayors of both cities, further strengthening their mutual commitment to cooperation and support for Ukraine.
On this occasion, Stand With Ukraine took part in a fascinating discussion at Sciences Po Le Havre, in the presence of Michaël Hauchecorne, Director of the Sciences Po Le Havre Campus, where each speaker was able to bring their expertise on the consequences of the conflict and the crucial challenges of reconstruction: planning, anticipating, and rebuilding sustainably.
The Ambassador of Ukraine to France, Vadym Omelchenko, reminded of the importance of international solidarity and the commitment of French cities alongside Ukraine.
The Mayor of Mariupol, Vadym Boichenko, then detailed the relocation and reintegration plan for thousands of temporarily displaced people, emphasizing the need to plan reconstruction over the next thirty years.
Edward Mayor, President of Stand With Ukraine, presented the La Cantine de Marioupol project, a living and integration space to be established in Dnipro to support displaced people.
The Director of the Le Havre-Seine Estuary Urban Planning Agency, Max Yvetot, then shared the experience of Le Havre’s reconstruction after 1944 and the lessons that can be applied to Mariupol.
Pierre Heilbronn, Special Envoy of the President of the Republic for Aid and Reconstruction in Ukraine, discussed investment opportunities to build the Ukraine of tomorrow.
Michelin-starred chef Thierry Marx, founder of the “Cuisine Mode d’Emploi(s)” program, stressed the importance of training and social ties in the reconstruction process, highlighting the essential role of cooking in reintegration and resilience.
A pleasure to exchange ideas with Sciences Po students and high school students in attendance, whose questions enriched the debate and opened new perspectives.
A big thank you to Sciences Po, the city of Le Havre, and all the speakers and participants for this essential discussion on the future of Mariupol and post-war reconstruction.
