🎙️ On March 21, 2023, a conference titled “Ukraine and Its Past: The Holodomor” was held at the French National Assembly. It was organized by MPs Anne Genetet (Renaissance), Boris Vallaud (Socialist Party), Jean-Louis Bourlanges (MoDem), ValĂ©rie Rabault (Socialist Party), Cyrielle Chatelain (Europe Ecology – The Greens), and Benjamin Haddad (Renaissance), President of the France-Ukraine Friendship Group in the National Assembly.
The event, attended by Ukraine’s Ambassador to France, Vadym Omelchenko, and the association Stand With Ukraine, aimed to raise awareness among the public and parliamentarians about the tragedy of the Holodomor—a genocide orchestrated in 1932-1933, during which nearly six million victims perished in a famine organized by the USSR under Stalin.
⚖️ As the National Assembly prepared to examine a resolution on March 28 to officially recognize and condemn the Holodomor as genocide, this conference underscored the importance of understanding the recent history between Ukraine and Russia. Russia has long denied the 1932-1933 genocide, making international recognition crucial, especially in the context of Russia’s current war of aggression.
Update: Watch the replay of the debate on the resolution held on March 28, 2023, during which the National Assembly officially recognized the Holodomor as genocide. This milestone marks a pivotal moment for historical memory and reinforces support for Ukraine’s fight for sovereignty.
