Stand With Ukraine, in collaboration with United for Ukraine Network, Eastern Circles, DiXi Group, Urgewald, and Friends of the Earth Europe, will co-organize a roundtable discussion on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at the European Parliament in Brussels, focusing on sanctions against the Russian nuclear industry.
This conference brings together experts and policymakers to discuss the impact of sanctions on the Russian nuclear sector and their implications for European energy security. Speakers will include Andrius Kubilius, MEP from the EPP Group, Vsevolod Chentsov, Head of the Ukrainian Mission to the European Union, Olena Pavlenko, President of DiXi Group, and Patricia Lorenz, expert at Friends of the Earth Europe. The discussion will be moderated by Anastasiya Shapochkina, President of Eastern Circles.
The initiative aims to raise awareness among the public and decision-makers about the risks posed by the Russian nuclear industry and to promote political action to strengthen sanctions in this sector. Discussions will focus on how Europe can reduce its dependence on Russian nuclear energy and foster safer and more sustainable alternatives.
During the roundtable, experts will examine the close ties between Rosatom (Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation) and the Russian government, the current state of nuclear energy sanctions, European companies’ relations with Rosatom, and the interdependence between Europe and Russia in the nuclear field. The conversation will also explore the potential for new nuclear sanctions and their impact on European nuclear security.
This high-level European event will serve as a call to action, emphasizing the need for strong measures against Russia and key actors supporting its invasion of Ukraine, while advocating for a safer and more independent European energy policy.
