🎞 As part of the Babylon Villeneuve project, we are delighted to invite you to a screening of the documentary “Iron Butterflies” by the renowned Ukrainian collective Babylon’13, at Bercy Beaucoup in Paris’s 12th arrondissement!

On July 17, 2014, Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was shot down by a Russian BUK anti-aircraft system over eastern Ukraine, killing all 298 people on board. The Russian government immediately denied any involvement in this tragedy, unleashing a wave of propaganda to obscure the true circumstances of the crash. However, as the international investigation progressed and evidence was gathered, Russia’s denials became increasingly absurd and implausible.

✈️ In a world where violence and lies intertwine, Iron Butterflies, directed by Roman Liubyi, uncovers the truth about what happened to flight MH17 and what is at stake if we fail to confront these fabrications. Unpunished evil always returns.

🎥 About the Director: Roman Liubyi is a Ukrainian director, editor, animator, and musician. His first feature documentary, “War Notebook”, is a surreal journey to the frontlines of the Ukraine-Russia war, pieced together from footage filmed by Ukrainian soldiers in 2014. Since 2013, Roman has been a member of the Babylon’13 film collective.

🎹 Live Music Performance: After the screening, Ukrainian pianist Sasha Morozova, composer and actress in Iron Butterflies, will perform live. Sasha will play her own compositions, written during the war.

📷 Exhibition and Fundraising: The event will also feature an exhibition of photographic collages by French artist and friend of Ukraine, Fanny Lechevalier. All exhibited works will be available for purchase, with proceeds going to support Ukraine’s defenders.
