As part of the Congress of Mayors, Marie-Christine Thivant, mayor of Sorbiers, welcomed Vasyl Andrieshyn, mayor of Burshtyn, for a day rich in exchanges, marking the beginning of a promising collaboration between the two cities. After several virtual meetings, the first in-person meeting was organized with the support of Stand With Ukraine and its Ukrainian partner Cities4Cities, laying the foundations for a partnership focused on solidarity and cooperation.

The day began with a meeting at the Sorbiers Town Hall, attended by local elected officials, members of the twinning committee, and Mrs. Sofiya Tsisar, an interpreter accompanying the Ukrainian delegation. During this meeting, the mayors discussed the challenges and priorities of their municipalities before signing a pre-agreement for partnership, symbolizing their mutual commitment to developing concrete projects. The official signing of the agreement will take place during a future meeting.

A friendly lunch followed, providing an opportunity to strengthen the bonds among participants and share ideas about potential first initiatives. The afternoon was dedicated to a guided tour of Sorbiers, showing the town’s sports, cultural, and heritage infrastructures. These discoveries offered Vasyl Andrieshyn an inspiring view of Sorbiers’ local projects and facilities.

This day marks the beginning of a cooperation driven by a shared vision of solidarity and cultural and economic exchange.
