Historic Moment for the Cities of Le Havre and Mariupol.

Today, Édouard Philippe, Mayor of Le Havre, and Vadym Boichenko, Mayor of Mariupol, signed a friendship pact, in the presence of Pierre Heilbronn, Special Envoy of President Macron for Aid to Ukraine, and Vadym Omelchenko, Ambassador of Ukraine to France.

For three years, the Ukrainian flag has flown above Le Havre’s City Hall—a powerful symbol of the city’s unwavering commitment to Ukraine. Today, this commitment takes on a new dimension with the signing of this friendship protocol.

A partnership initiated by Stand With Ukraine, extending an active solidarity that began in the earliest days of the invasion.

Since 2022, Le Havre has stepped up:

  • Sending clothing and material aid
  • Welcoming nearly 300 Ukrainians into Havrais families
  • Delivering buses and essential equipment…

Today, a new chapter begins: Le Havre is supporting the renovation of student housing in Dnipro for Mariupol’s displaced people, where La Cantine de Marioupol will be established.

“The signing of this protocol is a powerful message of hope and solidarity. The two cities are now united by an unbreakable bond, forged through history, war, and destruction, but above all by the will to survive and rebuild.”
Vadym Omelchenko, Ambassador of Ukraine to France

A friendship born from history, now turned toward the future and reconstruction.
